CLASSIFICATIONStaff Accountant
PAY RANGE$45,000
RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is a mid-level Staff Account for Human Services Center (HSC), a community behavioral health organization.  This role is responsible for performing day-to-day accounting activities that requiring a general understanding of business processes and the ability to determine and explain variances in performance from period to period. This role will participate in the month end financial closing process and will prepare internal and financial reports.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Performs general accounting activities as defined by the Director of Finance.
  • Strong knowledge base of generally acceptable accounting practices (GAAP).
  • Assists Finance Director in accounting analysis, forecasting, and budgeting activities.
  • Prepares internal and external financial statements and supports external reporting process as directed.
  • Understand and assist in the daily functions of HSC’s departments.
  • Prepares month end journal entries as they relate to:
  • Salary Accrual
  • Benefit Reconciliations
  • Cash related transactions
  • Prepares monthly program funded billings and administrative costs distribution.
  • On a yearly Basis:
  • Involved in the Pension Audit.
  • Involved in the HSC audit.
  • Involved in the Worker’s Comp Audit.
  • Involved in HUD Audits
  • Complete monthly billing for schools, professional services, other charges and any miscellaneous billing, as needed.
  • Prepare bank deposits including an income breakdown report.
  • Maintain petty cash fund approving vouchers for payment and reconciling fund on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares and submits the semi-annual Sales Tax Return for any items sold by the vocational program at Caritas and Westfield.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director and her designee.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll and accounting industry.
  • Proven analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough with desire for greatest degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities with the ability to prioritize.
  • Proficient in computer skills including financial and payroll software (preferred).
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance and demeanor.
